Cartly — the e-commerce platform built by WS24
Cartly is a next-generation e-commerce platform built by WS24: a hybrid architecture that renders storefronts with Liquid SSR and adds React only where interaction is needed (Islands), backed by a Go core and a unified GraphQL API. It is Online Store 2.0 compatible, so teams keep the Shopify theme syntax they already know.
Why we built it
WS24 shipped 200+ Shopify stores as Shopify Plus partners. After hitting the same webhook races, checkout limits, and performance ceilings on every project, we built our own platform — keeping what works about Shopify and removing what doesn't.
Cartly vs Shopify — where it actually matters
Cartly targets the pain points Shopify Plus leaves open: raw performance, backend flexibility, and full control of the storefront and checkout, without giving up the familiar theme model.
The stack — six pieces
The whole platform is six components: Nginx, a Go core, Node, PostgreSQL, React, and GraphQL. Storefronts render server-side in Liquid with no JavaScript until interaction, for fast mobile loads and strong Core Web Vitals (a 98/100 Lighthouse performance score).
Theme development your team already knows
Cartly themes use the same Liquid syntax, the same sections/ folder, and the same index.json templates as Shopify. The only new thing — and it is optional — is dropping <island> tags where you want React interactivity.
